Hello, paid subscribers! I am immensely grateful for your continued financial and moral support, especially as the days grow shorter and seasonal depression rears its ugly, SSRI-resistant head. First, let’s take care of some housekeeping…
My final Just Come! as co-producer/co-host is Tuesday, November 28th. I co-founded the show with Kendall Farrell in October 2018, a few months after I moved to New York City. Though it’s been more challenging producing comedy — or any kind of live entertainment — post-pandemic (“post”), I’m psyched we’ve kept the show going for ~5 years in the back room of an unassuming Williamsburg bar. Through JC!, I’ve met and worked with some of my comedy heroes (Chris Gethard, Ilana Glazer, Aparna Nancherla, Rachel Feinstein, etc.) and showcased some of the city’s absolute funniest, hardest-working comics before they broke (Ethan Simmons-Patterson, Jordan Jensen, our former accompanist/resident musical comedian Dylan Adler, etc.). It’s hard to write something about my departure that doesn’t sound like a eulogy, but have no fear — my intrepid colleagues Kendall, Nolawee Mengist and Colleen Genevieve will be putting on a hell of a show at The Graham every Tuesday for the foreseeable future. If logistics permit, absolutely check it out. Oh, and tip the performers and your bartender. They deserve it.
Starting Tuesday, December 5 at 6:30, I’ll be co-hosting an open mic with Claire Alexander and Veronica Kwiatkowski at Flop House Comedy Club in Brooklyn (opening December 2nd). The name’s TBD, but it’ll be something mental health- and/or yearbook-themed. Bring your new bits and do stand up with us! It’s fun. Sometimes.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be consulting creatively on Jay Eddy’s play Driving in Circles, which premieres in March at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Jay’s a brilliant multi-hyphenate theater artist and I’m honored to be a part of this exciting new work. Seriously — they’re the real deal. Stay tuned for updates and make plans to join us in Boston if possible!
I am eagerly awaiting the outcome of a recent interview with [large healthcare company] for a copywriting/proofreading role. In the meantime, if you hear of any comms/editorial/media, etc. gigs you think could be a fit, send them my way. Baby still needs a big girl job. Thank you!
